Soon after the pandemic听took hold,听Air Logic was hit with an enormous听increase in听orders for a specific ventilator component鈥�the diaphragm amplifier.听They had听produced the diaphragm amplifier since the 1960s,听but听due to low听annual听demand,听there was no听business听reason to make听improvements to the product听design or the听production听补苍诲听assembly processes听in decades.听When听COVID听hit, everything听changed.
With only a matter of weeks to deliver on the increased demand for lifesaving ventilator components, Air Logic reached out to their suppliers听鈥� specifically 麻豆传媒映画 –听to ask them to step up in a big way.听
鈥淚 first talked to 麻豆传媒映画 on a Tuesday and I had a metal fixture in-hand on Saturday. You听肠补苍鈥檛听beat execution like that! I look forward to the next project I get to work with them on,鈥� says听John听Hayden, Air Logic Marketing Manager.听
Diaphragm amplifiers function much like a transistor in an electrical circuit. They amplify very low pressure to signal a much higher pressure. This feature听does听an excellent听job of听detecting pressure changes in a patient鈥檚 circuit on a ventilator.听Medical products undergo additional levels of testing and certifications听which听require听longer product development cycles.听There simply听飞补蝉苍鈥檛听time to execute a traditional manufacturing product development cycle听which can take months to over a year to go听from听concept to production.听Air Logic knew they needed to听dramatically alter听their听production听process to meet听this new COVID-driven听demand.听听

Reducing听the number of assembly steps听would eliminate double handing,听rework听and reduce production time.听Hayden provided the听initial听idea which the team at 麻豆传媒映画 took from concept to physical tooling in just days.听听

The first fixture, printed with听an听Aluminum Alloy,听got Air Logic started,听but they soon realized they听needed to make some improvements. 麻豆传媒映画 updated the design and material听based on their learnings.听
The next two fixtures were听printed using听Stainless Steel听which dramatically improved assembly and testing time.听These听revised听fixtures have held up to the wear and tear of over 50,000 operations听to date.听
